What is STRATOS™?
STRATOS™ is AEye’s ultra-long-range lidar sensor, designed to detect objects at distances up to 1.5 kilometers. It is highlighted as a compact, automotive-grade device, barely larger than a smartphone, and is engineered for robust performance in challenging environments. STRATOS™ is positioned as an advanced solution for applications requiring extended detection range, such as rail, smart infrastructure, defense, and logistics.
What is the difference between Apollo™ and STRATOS™?
Apollo™ and STRATOS™ are both software-defined lidar solutions designed to provide long-range perception, but they are optimized for different operational requirements. STRATOS™, 25% smaller in size than Apollo™, can see up to 1.5 kilometers while Apollo™ can see up to 1 kilometer. STRATOS™ is better suited for high-speed, safety-critical applications such as rail, aviation, and trucking.
How does STRATOS™ help improve reaction time?
By detecting objects at distances of up to 1.5 kilometers, STRATOS™ gives AI systems more time to classify objects, predict their behavior, and determine the safest course of action. More time enables more informed decisions, particularly in high-speed environments.
Why does detection range matter for autonomous systems?
Longer detection range gives autonomous systems more time to identify, understand, and respond to potential hazards. In high-speed or mission-critical environments, earlier awareness can improve safety, increase operational efficiency, and expand the range of scenarios autonomous systems can handle.
Is STRATOS™ software-defined?
Yes, like Apollo™, STRATOS™ is software-configurable meaning no hardware changes are necessary. Unlike other lidar systems that can only be updated with hardware upgrades, AEye’s lidar via software updates by our team. As a result, changes can be made much more quickly and efficiently.
